General cabinet layout 24 Altivar 1260 MV variable speed drive Fan assembly Power cabinet components The power cabinet can have up to 7 rows of stacks. The optional chopper is placed in the first row starting from the top. The inverter is placed in the subsequent rows. The inverter is based on a 3-level NPC (Neutral Point Clamped) topology that uses medium-voltage IGBT semiconductors. The control unit is in charge of switching these semiconductors according to the required set point. The number of bus capacitors inside the equipment depends on the number of inverter stacks. They store the electrical energy required to maintain DC bus voltage constant and act as an intermediary between the rectifier and the inverter. For every 3 basic power modules (BPM) there will be 1 DC Bus (consisting of 1 busbar) to which are connected 2 bus capacitors. The capacitors are assembled directly on the busbar to reduce parasitic inductance of the circuit. The main busbar performs the connections between the capacitor and the BPMs, whereas the horizontal busbars make the connection between the semiconductors and the vertical busbar. The horizontal busbar also connects the semiconductors to the output busbar.
