Output sine wave filter 35 Altivar 1260 MV variable speed drive The voltage derivatives applied by frequency converters on load power cables (especially motors) can cause generation of uncontrolled transients on these loads and produce deterioration of the isolating system. These transients translate into overvoltage and uncontrolled voltage derivatives on the load terminals. This is why the sine wave filter is included to limit these effects. This is a system consisting of an LCR network. The capacitors and resistors are connected to a series of inductances. All three components are cooled by natural convection. The standard sine wave filter enables the drive to operate with standard non-converter duty motors and where cable lengths are over 250 meters. In addition, the high quality waveform puts less stress on motor insulation and bearings which increases life span.
