20 Altivar 312 variable speed drives Functions Functions (continued) Motor thermal protection The theoretical temperature rise of the motor is continuously calculated to provide indirect thermal protection. Thermal protection is adjustable from 0.2 to 1.5 times the nominal drive current. This function is suitable for all applications with self-cooled motors. Drive thermal protection Thermal protection, by a PTC probe mounted on the heatsink or integrated in the power module, ensures that the drive is protected in the event of poor ventilation or excessive ambient temperatures. Locks the drive in the event of a detected fault.
