Maximum motor cable lengths according to the application Depending on the type of application, drives can either be used on their own or with the addition of various options. Altivar 71 drives include as standard a software function used to limit overvoltages at the motor terminals. For more information, please refer to the Programming Manual (SUL function). Depending on the cable lengths or the type of application, it may be necessary to use output filters: Motor chokes used to limit the dV/dt Sine wave filters that are particularly effective for long cable runs or to reduce electromagnetic motor noise The table below gives several examples of maximum permissible motor cable lengths according to application type. Altivar 71 drives have been designed to operate (without the need for additional optional equipment) with the following maximum motor cable lengths:
