58 Altivar 71 variable speed drives Input Power Options Line Reactors Line reactors Line reactors (also referred to as line chokes) are used to provide improved protection against overvoltages on the line supply to reduce input currents to the drive and to reduce harmonic distortion of the current produced by the drive. Line reactors (or some form of additional impedance) are recommended when the impedance of the power distribution system is low, such as when the power of the system transformer is ten times larger than the power rating of the drive.
